Introduction
You may have noticed that Michelle and I love to do these year end recap videos where we talk unscripted about the games we've finished in that year. We have a lot of fun doing that, but sometimes it's hard to remember your raw, unfiltered thoughts upon finishing a piece of media months after you've finished it. That gave me the idea to create this blog in order to chronicle my raw, fresh thoughts about not just games, but any piece of media I consume throughout the year. The point of doing so is not only to remember how it made me feel at the time and be able to reflect back on it during the end of the year but also to preserve my experiences and put them into a format where they can be shared with other people. I'm a huge advocate of the mindset that life is short and if you enjoy something, it's worth sharing with other people. I'm sure there will be a very small number of people who will actually care to read these, but in the event that you do, I am excited to be able to share my thoughts and feelings with you as to give you the opportunity to share this experience mutually with me. I also want to put my thoughts and feelings about media into a journal to make it easier to write scripts for video essays in the future as I can potentially recall certain aspects by referencing the respective blog post I created about it, making the process of writing scripts easier. This is also an avenue for me to as a content creator to share my thoughts about pieces of media I would never actually make a video about, so in the event that any of my viewers are curious about my thoughts regarding media I don't plan on making a video about, it's another source of my thoughts and perspective that they can consume between uploads of major videos. It doubles as "more content" that my viewers can consume if they choose to. I promise these are going to be hastily thrown together out of my stream of conscious as well, so they will not cause a slow down in the production of videos by virtue of being too time intensive or high production quality.
To me, the act of "completing" something carries this unbelievable sense of accomplishment and closure. so I like to keep track of what I plan to finish on some sort of website or app so I can keep track of my backlog of media. For games I use "Backloggery". A website I highly recommend checking out that lets you archive your games collection and chronicle your progress as you finish games and complete your collection. With books, I just made an account on Goodreads which puts into perspective the staggering amount of unfinished books I have. For a while, I was working on creating an account on "MyAnimeList" as well but I abandoned that years ago and I'm certain that it's not anywhere close to accurate anymore and I don't have much interest in maintaining it since most modern anime doesn't interest me anymore. So, what kinds of media do I plan on covering here?
Every game that I finish: there are plenty of games I want to play just for fun not because I plan on making them into a future video, but as I finish games for let's say, the Musou retrospective, I can write my thoughts and first impressions upon finishing the game which will make the script writing process easier.
Books: most of the books in my backlog are sci-fi that have some kind of cultural influence on other pieces of media and make for good reading to better understand themes and ideas that manifest in other culturally significant works. I also have a lot of non-fiction books for either historical reference or understanding certain writer's philosophical or political perspectives which will also help inform me of the political or philosophical perspective of a work of fiction. I also love reading novelizations of video games or books based in the world of games. (Halo, Dishonored, Bioshock, Dragon Age, Metal Gear Solid just to name a few). Some of which might make for good videos in the future potentially. I am also planning to read an entire DC comic book series purely because a close friend of mine loves this particular character passionately and I want her to be able to talk to someone about it who's read the entire thing, although I'm having a hard time finding a good resource for reading all of it online reliably.
Any films or anime I watch or even other content creator's Youtube videos that really inspire me or get my brain going. Other video essay content creators are some of my favorite pieces of media to consume these days and if I find one particularly inspirational I might as well give it a few paragraphs to explain how it made me feel.
So that's that. I greatly appreciate anyone taking the time to read these and following my content in general. Thanks everyone, there will be more of these to come.
